MCDB Graduate Student Handbook

Oral Exam Postponement

Postponement of the Doctoral Oral Qualifying Exam will be considered only under rare circumstances. To petition for postponement, at least one month before the scheduled doctoral OQE date, students must submit a written request with detailed explanation of the circumstances to the MCDB Student Affairs office. Such requests will be reviewed, and subsequently either approved or denied by the chair of the MCDB graduate committee within one week of submission. If the request is not approved, students will be held to the original date for the OQE.

If postponement is approved, the exam must take place before May 1 of the student's 3rd year. The student, the student's dissertation advisor, and the chair of the MCDB graduate committee must sign a postponement form. The postponement form will include: the reason for the delay and the new exam date, as scheduled by the Student Affairs Office, and will be put into the student's file.
