Year 1 guide

To Do Before School Starts:

Make sure that your Graduate Student Affairs Officer has the correct mailing address, email address, and phone number on file for you.

Be sure to sign up for Bruin Direct (direct deposit) as soon as possible. http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gss/library/bdintro.htm

If you are an international student and you will need to take the Test of Oral Proficiency as soon as possible. Please see www.oid.ucla.edu for details.

Fall Quarter:

You are required to follow the current ACCESS curriculum. Enroll yourself in M253: Macromolecular Structure and M248: Molecular Genetics.

Please also enroll in the MCDB 296 and 596 courses of the PI with which you are rotating. Remember: you must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2.

Winter Quarter:

You are required to follow the current ACCESS curriculum. Enroll yourself in M267A: Cell Structure, Signaling, and Development and M267B: Seminar in Cell Structure, Signaling, and Development.

Please also enroll in the MCDB 296 and 596 courses of the PI with which you are rotating. Remember: you must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2.

Spring quarter:

You are required to follow the current ACCESS curriculum. Enroll yourself in two elective courses and M234: Ethics.

Please also enroll in the MCDB 296 and 596 courses of the PI with which you are rotating. Remember: you must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2.

Other:

Check your BAR account every month. Pay bills by the 20th of the month to avoid holds.

Keep in mind that you will decide who your mentor will be by July 1 of this year.
