Year 4 guide
To Do Before School Starts:
Update your contact information, reporting new mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses to your Graduate Student Affairs Officer.
Fall Quarter:
You must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2. Make sure you are enrolled in MCDB 296 and 599 (596 if you have not Advanced to Candidacy).
Winter Quarter:
You must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2. Make sure you are enrolled in MCDB 296 and 599 (596 if you have not Advanced to Candidacy).
Notify your Graduate Student Affairs Officer regarding when you would like to do your Midstream/Annual meeting (see below).
Apply for a Dissertation Year Fellowship for next year if it will be your last year. See www.gdnet.ucla.edu for details, or talk to your Graduate Student Affairs Officer.
Spring quarter:
You will do your Midstream Seminar this quarter if you plan on finishing the program next year. The Midstream is done halfway between the Oral Qualifying Exam and the Final Thesis Defense. Otherwise, you will do an Annual Meeting with your committee (which is much less formal than the Midstream). Refer to the Graduate Handbook for more details.
You must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2. Make sure you are enrolled in MCDB 296 and 599 (596 if you have not Advanced to Candidacy).
Other:
Check your BAR account every month. Pay bills by the 20th of the month to avoid holds.
Once you have Advanced to Candidacy, you can petition the department to pay for travel to a conference where you are presenting a poster. Send an email to Courtney with this request.
Notify your Graduate Student Affairs Officer immediately if you decide to reconstitute your graduate committee so that she can begin processing the paperwork.
