Grad Guide for Current Students after 4th Year
To Do Before School Starts:
Update your contact information, reporting new mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses to your Graduate Student Affairs Officer.
Fall Quarter:
You must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2. Make sure you are enrolled in MCDB 296 and 599.
Winter Quarter:
You must be enrolled in 12 units by the end of Week 2. Make sure you are enrolled in MCDB 296 and 599
Spring quarter:
You should be finishing your thesis and defending this quarter. Congratulations! Please refer to the Graduate Handbook for details.
Plan on attending the Dissertation Workshop put on by the Graduate Division and University Archives where you will be told exactly what you need to do administratively to finish.
If you will NOT be finishing this year you will need to have an Annual Meeting with your committee this quarter.

Apply for a Dissertation Year Fellowship for next year if it will be your last year. See www.gdnet.ucla.edu for details, or talk to your Graduate Student Affairs Officer.
Other:
Check your BAR account every month. Pay bills by the 20th of the month to avoid holds.
Once you have Advanced to Candidacy, you can petition the department to pay for travel to a conference where you are presenting a poster. Send an email to Jia-Qing Zhao with this request.
Notify your Graduate Student Affairs Officer immediately if you decide to reconstitute your graduate committee so that she can begin processing the paperwork.
