About MCDB 199
Special Studies Directed Research in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and
Developmental Biology
Drafts, Final Reports, and Grading
By 3:00 PM on Wednesday of eighth week, you must submit a draft report to the MCDB Student Affairs Office. Your draft report must also be submitted to your sponsor. During the ninth week of classes, pick up the drafts from both Student Affairs Office and sponsor and incorporate any comments and suggestions into your final report. Both drafts must be resubmitted with the final report to the Student Affairs Office.
Your draft should include:
- Completed MCDB Research Projects: 198A-B-C/199A-B/199 Form attached on the front of your draft. Please retain a copy of this completed form, in order to re-submit it to MCDB with your final paper.
- In completing both your draft and final versions, please be sure you have complied with all items on the checklist.
Failure to submit a draft report by the deadline can result in your grade being reduced by one-half grade; for example, an A would become an A-.
Your final report must be submitted to your sponsor and to the MCDB Student Affairs Office. However, you must work out in advance with your sponsor a date to turn in the paper to him/her which takes into account her/his schedule (including trips out of town) and allows sufficient time for the sponsor to read and grade it no later than the end of finals week. You must also submit the final report to the MCDB Student Affairs Office no later than 5:00 PM on the Monday after finals week. The report must conform to the organization of a scientific paper (see the checklist for final reports). It must contain: Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Literature Cited. It must also provide evidence of completed work.
You are required to sign and submit with your proposal an attachment to the MCDB 199 petition stating that you have received, read and understand you will be held to this list of requirements (MCDB Research Projects: 198A-B-C/199A-B/199 Form ). .
Grades for 199s are assigned by the Faculty Undergraduate Advisor of Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology in conjunction with the sponsor.
NO GRADE WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE REGISTRAR FOR MCDB 199 BEFORE THE FINAL PAPER IS RECEIVED IN THE MCDB STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE.
